Storm grapplers wrestle at Coe Invite

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Simpson wrestling team competed at the Coe College Invitational on Saturday. Jason Peta and Shyler Langley both garnered sixth-place finishes while Sam Mathis turned in a seventh-place nod.

In Peta's opener at 133 pounds, the freshman won by technical fall with a score of 16-0, but lost in his next match. He won his next two matches with a decision and one sudden victory to advance to the fifth-place match. Peta fell 5-4 during that match to Nick Short from Graceland.

Langley opened his day with an opening win by decision in the 184-pound bracket. He lost his next bout but rebounded with pins in his next two matches to move to the fifth-place showdown. Langley couldn't overcome his opponent and lost by decision to end his day.

Mathis began with a pin and then fell in his next contest at 197 pounds, before receiving a bye to go to round three. Mathis then tallied two straight pins to keep competing, but lost in his next match. In the seventh-place bout, the senior won 8-3 for a decision.
