Trio leads Storm wrestlers against No. 24 Dubuque

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson wrestling team grabbed three victories in its home finale on Friday, but fell short of its first American Rivers Conference dual win in a 32-15 defeat to No. 24 Dubuque on senior night.

Sam Mathis was honored before the match as the lone Simpson senior. Mathis competed in his 116th bout while in a Storm uniform tonight.

Dalton Cockman tallied Simpson's first win in a 13-7 decision that took it to an extra stanza for a sudden victory at 165 pounds. Cockman tied things up at 7-7 late in the third period as the freshman secured the triumph in the next round.

Shyler Langley followed Cockman with a pin over Stone Durham in 4:34 to keep the momentum going at 174 pounds. Langley now has 12 wins during his sophomore slate.

In the 125-pound weight division, Dylan McChesney secured an opening-round pin in 2:23 for the Storm's final win. McChesney now has the team lead of 13 victories this year.

Josh Bower came up short at 133 pounds in a 5-2 decision as he looked for his first conference win of his young career. Mathis lost 8-2 at 197 pounds in his final bout in Hopper Gymnasium.
