Scott, Gioffredi run table at IIAC Duals, Storm beat Nebraska Wesleyan

DUBUQUE, Iowa — DeVaughn Scott and John Gioffredi combined to go 8-0 to lead the Simpson wrestling team at the Loras Pod of the Iowa Conference Duals on Saturday.

The Storm (2-9, 1-4) went 1-3 on the day, beating Nebraska Wesleyan 30-19 and falling to No. 7 Coe (40-11), No. 5 Loras (40-8) and Luther (36-12).

Scott enjoyed a banner day, going 4-0 at 197 pounds with four straight pins. He started the day by pinning Coe's Jordan Challis in 3:50, then took down Nebraska Wesleyan's Ben Lodema in 2:22. He pinned his final two opponents in less than a minute, disposing of Luther's Hunter Weaver in 57 seconds and Loras' Richard Hunter in 43 seconds.

Scott improved to 25-9 on the season and has won 11 of his last 13 matches.

Gioffredi also posted a perfect 4-0 day, getting a pair of pins and a tech fall at 133 pounds. He pinned Nebraska Wesleyan's Brayden Dowding in 56 seconds and Luther's Sam Camacho in 2:01. He added a 17-2 tech fall over Coe's Fletcher Green and a 7-2 decision over Loras' Michael Triplett.

Gioffredi improved to 9-2 at 133 pounds on the season. He is 2-5 at 141.

The Storm tallied five bonus-point wins against the Prairie Wolves. In addition to pins from Scott and Gioffredi, RJ Brown pinned Nathan Hunt in 1:52 at 165 pounds. Alek Ziegler tallied a tech fall over Jesse Malmkar at 141, Blake Bauer scored a major decision over Dustin Monroe at 157 and Noah Robinson edged Alex Kerr 5-2 at 184.
