Five athletes representing Storm cross country teams earn all-academic honors

NEW ORLEANS - Both Simpson College cross country teams received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, represented by five individual student-athletes.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers. The Storm men finished seventh at the NCAA Midwest Regional, the team's best finish since 1995, and had a cumulative GPA of 3.576, the highest out of all American Rivers Conference programs. The Storm women also took seventh at the regional meet, with the team's top two finishes in the meet since 1991 coming in the last two years, boasting an overall GPA of 3.559.

Three men and two women received All-Academic honors as individuals as well. In order to qualify for All-Academic Athlete distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

The men had three recipients in Spencer Moon, Ean Warrick, and Andrew Klein. Moon is earning his fourth career All-Academic individual honor. The senior standout qualified for his third straight NCAA Championship meet in the fall, placing in the top 10 in the conference and regional meets. Warrick was named an All-Academic Athlete for the second time in his career, claiming the last individual qualifying spot to the national meet and earning all-region honors. Klein, earning his first All-Academic individual honor, ran his season-best 8K time by over a minute at the regional meet and also set his career-best in the 6K at the season-opening Bill Buxton Invitational.

Lara Kallem and Ashley Rockhold are each earning their second straight All-Academic individual honor. Kallem became the first Storm woman since Catie Ellingson in 2010 to qualify for the NCAA Championships, and only the second since 1991. Rockhold earned all-conference honors with a career-best time in the 6K en route to a 16th-place finish.
