Moon wins second straight weekly conference honor

INDIANOLA, Iowa - After winning the Les Duke Invitational, Spencer Moon of the Simpson men's cross country team was named the American Rivers Conference Runner of the Week for the second week in a row.

Moon coasted to his second win in as many meets on Saturday, winning by just over 25 seconds to claim his eighth career cross country title. The senior from Lake City, Iowa completed the course in 25:20.44, as the Storm took second place overall as a team.

"Spencer had a terrific outing at Grinnell," said Heath Moenck, director of track and field and cross country. "He's off to a great start and we are excited for the rest of the season."

The award marks the third time that Moon has been named the conference's Runner of the Week in his career. It is also the first time since Ryan Edwardson in 2011 that a Simpson runner has won the award in back-to-back weeks.

Moon and his teammates will have a couple weeks off before returning to run at the end of the month at the Dan Huston Invitational.
