Moon takes second place at A-R-C Championship to lead Storm

PELLA, Iowa - Spencer Moon won his fourth career all-conference honor at the American Rivers Conference Championship, finishing second overall to lead the Simpson men's cross country team to fourth place.

Moon becomes only the second athlete in program history to earn four all-conference honors, with Danny Bauer being the other from 1981-1984. With all-conference honors being expanded to the top 20, Ean Warrick and James Murray also earned all-conference honors. "We are pleased with the performance from our men today," said Storm director of track and field and cross country Heath Moenck. "Spencer looked terrific and Ean and James ran outstanding to earn all-conference honors."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Moon remained at the top of the race for the majority with a small group of runners. Wartburg's Christopher Collet pulled away in the last kilometer, but Moon placed second in 24:48.9 for Simpson's best individual finish since Dave Halferty's title in 1989.
  • Warrick finished 16th in a time of 25:49.5, while Murray placed 18th in a career-best 25:54.0.
  • It is the third time in the last four conference championships the Storm have had at least three all-conference runners.
  • Marc Medici (26:17.9, 30th) and Andrew Klein (26:43.6, 41st) completed the scoring portion of the Storm lineup.
