Reiter leads Storm in home doubleheader

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Reade Reiter went 2-0 in singles play for the Simpson men's tennis team as the squad lost to Elmhurst and Northwestern (MN) inside the Buxton Tennis Complex on Saturday.

The Storm now sit at 7-9 overall and went 1-4 during the five-match homestand over the course of the past week.

Match One
Elmhurst 5, Simpson 4
Reiter had to come back and win during his No. 2 singles match. The sophomore fell down a set after losing 3-6 in the opener, but came back strong to win 6-2 in the second and finished off the run with a 10-2 victory.

Peter Walkwitz opened his day with a quick win at No. 5 singles. He won both sets by a score of 6-1.

Brett Dewerff and Matt Turnley lost tough matches. Dewerff went three sets, but could not hang on to win and lost. Turnley had to go to a tiebreaker in the second set, but ultimately lost.

Match Two
Northwestern (MN) 7, Simpson 2
Just like in the first match, Reiter had to play three sets to reach his goal. Reiter lost in the first set 3-6 and won 6-2 to make it even. In the third and final set, he cruised to a 10-2 win.

Turnley rebounded his lost from earlier in the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Walkwitz came close to going undefeated like Reiter, but lost in three sets at No. 5 singles.

Simpson travels to Storm Lake, Iowa to take on Buena Vista on Wednesday. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
