Storm tennis pick up victory against Webster
ELSAH, Ill. -- The Simpson men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday against the Webster Gorlocks and lost to host Principia Panthers in the morning.
The Storm competed against the Gorlocks in the afternoon match and won 7-1. Simpson won all three doubles matches against Webster.
Zach Nelson and Read Reiter escaped with an 8-7 (7-5) victory at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of Matt Turnley and AJ Jackson won 8-6 and the No. 3 doubles duo of Brett Dewerff and Peter Walkwitz earned an 8-3 victory.
Jackson cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and did not let the Webster player to win a game. Reade Reiter won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Brett Dewerff walked off the court with a win at No. 5 singles. Karson Richardson tallied a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles.
Simpson lost 8-1 to the Panthers before earning the win against Webster. The No. 3 doubles pair of Walkwitz and Dewerff won handily at 8-2 to receive the team's lone point.
The Storm competes on Friday, March 1 against Bethany Lutheran in Lakeville, Minn.
