Storm tally two wins to end weekend trip

FRIDLEY, Minn. -- The Simpson men's tennis team blanked two opponents on Saturday in the team's final day of competition in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

The Storm won 9-0 over Crown in the first match of the day and defeated Minnesota Morris 9-0 to cap off the road trip.

Match One
Simpson 9, Crown 0

Zach Nelson got things going quickly at No. 1 singles and won every game in the two sets to win 6-0, 6-0. Brett Dewerff followed the same suit at No. 3 singles, so did Karson Richardson at No. 6 singles play.

At No. 5 singles, Peter Walkwitz allowed his opponent to win one game out of the two sets and won 6-0, 6-1 for Simpson. Reade Reiter and Matt Turnley had tougher matches, but still walked away victorious.

In doubles play, the Storm only gave up three games in the three matches combined. The No. 2 doubles pair of AJ Jackson and Turnley, and No. 3 doubles duo of Dewerff and Walkwitz both won 8-0.

Match Two
Simpson 9, Minnesota Morris 0

In the finale for the afternoon, the Storm had tougher competition against the Cougars.

Nelson and Dewerff nearly went perfect for the day, but gave up one game during their 6-0, 6-1 wins in singles play against Minnesota Morris.

Turnley blanked his opponent in the opening set at 6-0 and followed that up with a 6-2 tally to claim the match win.

The doubles teams stayed on task and and did not allow the Cougars to win more than three games in any match.
