Storm defeat Dubuque in home A-R-C battle

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- In the beginning of a five-match homestand, the Simpson men's tennis team hosted Loras and Dubuque on Saturday. The Storm dropped the opening match to the Duhawks, 6-3, but rebounded to defeat the Spartans, 7-2.

Simpson is now 7-6 for the season with seven matches remaining until the American Rivers Conference Tournament.

Match One
Loras 6, Simpson 3

Brett Dewerff and Matt Turnley provided a spark for Simpson in singles play. Turnley cruised to a win with set victories of 6-3, 6-2. Dewerff had to do a little extra work and won 7-5, 7-5 to help claim a point for the team.

Peter Walkwitz almost escaped with a win at No. 5 singles, but lost 2-6, 6-2, 2-6.

In doubles play, Zach Nelson and Reade Reiter won 8-5 in the No. 1 slot.

Match Two
Simpson 7, Dubuque 2

The singles play paced the team to the match victory over Dubuque. Dewerff and Turnley remained undefeated for the day with another win in their singles spots.

After falling down 6-3, Reiter came back in the second set to win 6-2. In the deciding set, he only lost three games and won 10-3 to earn the point.

Up Next

Simpson returns to the court tomorrow to host Coe for a match that begins at noon. The conference showdown will be held at the Buxton Tennis Complex.
