Honz headlines men’s basketball all-conference selections

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Junior forward Chris Honz earned first-team honors to highlight Simpson College's selections to the 2020-21 All-American Rivers Conference Men's Basketball Team, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches.

Sophomore guards Andrew Curran and Collin Lister collected second-team honors.

The Storm went 3-7 during a pandemic-abbreviated 2020-21 campaign, winning 3 of 5 to close the regular season. Simpson earned the No. 5 seed in the American Rivers Conference Tournament after being picked ninth in the preseason coaches' poll. The Storm picked up a signature win in a 102-100 double-overtime triumph against preseason favorite Loras on Feb. 27 at Cowles Fieldhouse.

Chris Honz, first team all-conference
A product of Omaha, Nebraska, Honz earned first team all-conference honors after a breakout junior season. He averaged 14.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, up from 2.3 points and 2.5 rebounds during his first two seasons. He finished second in the league in both rebounding and blocks per game (1.2). He shot 61.6 percent from the field, good for fourth in the league. Honz's best performance was a 26-point, 11-rebound effort in a loss against league champion Dubuque on Feb. 26. He posted four double-doubles during the season.

Andrew Curran, second team all-conference
A product of Ottumwa, Iowa, Curran earned second team all-conference honors after averaging 15.1 points and a team-high 3.5 assists during his sophomore season. The team's second-leading scorer, Curran led the league in free throw percentage (88.9) and finished fourth in assists. He earned American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week honors after scoring 43 points in the Storm's double-overtime win over Loras on Feb. 27. The point total is the most by a Simpson player since the 1995-96 season.

Collin Lister, second team all-conference
A product of Carlisle, Iowa, Lister earned second team all-conference honors after averaging a team-high 15.6 points per game and connecting on a team-best 22 3-pointers. He finished eighth in the league in scoring and sixth in 3-pointers per game (2.2). Lister scored a career-high 30 points with six 3-pointers in a loss to Buena Vista on Jan. 28. He reached double-figure scoring in 8 of 10 games.
