MBB Preview: Simpson visits Coe for A-R-C Tournament

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The American Rivers Conference Tournament Quarterfinals is on the docket for Simpson College men's basketball this week. The Storm visit Coe on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. contest in the quarterfinals.

Simpson (3-6, 3-4 A-R-C) aimed for its third win in a row at home last Wednesday, but fell 83-77 to Wartburg. The Kohawks (5-4, 3-4 A-R-C) snapped a three-game winning streak in an 86-78 defeat to Luther last week.

All spectators that are invited to attend a home event will have secured that approval through their Kohawk or visiting team. All people permitted to attend will be on the pass list provided by those parties. Any further inquiries about ticketing availability should be directed to the head coach or staff of your respective program. All venues will open 30 minutes prior to competitions.

AMERICAN RIVERS CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
The American Rivers Conference Tournament begins tonight in a matchup between No. 8 Nebraska Wesleyan and No. 9 Luther ... the winner will advance to play No. 1 Dubuque tomorrow night ... Buena Vista, Loras and Coe fill the slots right in front of No. 5 Simpson, while Central is sixth and Wartburg holds seventh.

COE SERIES NOTES
Simpson and Coe meet for the 96th time with the Kohawks holding a 51-44 edge in the series ... Coe earned an 84-64 win on Jan. 30 in the only regular season bout between the two squads this year ... the Kohawks have claimed large margin of victories over the two meetings against the Storm with 20-point triumphs.

ABOUT THE KOHAWKS
Coe and ninth-year head coach Bryan Martin are currently the No. 4 seed in this year's tournament ... the Kohawks ended the regular season with a 5-4 record and won three of their last four contests ... the offense is third in the league in scoring at 83.4 points per game and fourth in points allowed at 74.1 ... Jarad Kruse is second among league scorers with an average of 18.3 points per contest.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite chipping away an 18-point deficit down to three points in the second half, Simpson was unable to overcome the hurdle and fell 83-77 against Wartburg last Wednesday ... Bryce Yoder connected on three-straight triples in the second half to help the Storm make a comeback ... Andrew Curran went on a small 5-0 tilt of his own to cut the advantage to three with 34 seconds left, but the Knights made their free throws down the stretch to seal the win ... Curran had a game-high 24 points and Chris Honz notched his fourth double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

UP NEXT
The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of No. 1 Dubuque verse the No. 8/9 winner. Action will take place at the higher seed's venue.
