MBB Preview: Simpson takes on Wartburg in midweek clash

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The regular season comes to an end tonight for Simpson College men's basketball with Wartburg visiting. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m. inside Cowles Fieldhouse.

The Storm (3-5, 3-3 A-R-C) won 102-100 over Loras on Saturday in a double overtime contest. Sophomore Andrew Curran scored a career-high 43 points and nailed the game-winner en route to being named the American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week. The Knights (3-6, 1-4 A-R-C) clipped Luther 69-47 on Monday.

Todd Guessford will be on the call as the game will be streamed live through SimpsonAthletics.com. Pregame will begin at 5:15 p.m.

SIMPSON ATTENDANCE POLICY
The general public, faculty and staff are still not permitted to watch contests in-person, while student-athletes and coaches from both teams will be permitted two spectators that can attend, in addition to the 25 students. All spectators will be required to wear a mask and maintain a distance of six feet from others.

WARTBURG SERIES NOTES
Simpson and Wartburg square up for the 145th time in the series history and second time this season ... the two A-R-C foes recently met on Jan. 12 in a nonconference clash, which the Knights won, 69-64 ... Wartburg carried a 16-point lead in the game, but Simpson climbed back with a 21-9 scoring spree to bring the game to within four points, but could not come any closer ... that loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Storm after they swept the season series in 2019-20.

Wartburg has won one of its last four contests coming into Wednesday's matchup ... the Knights recently beat Luther 69-47 on Monday ... Wartburg has two players scoring at least eight points per game, but still under double digits for the year ... the offense is currently seventh in the league in scoring at 73.2 points per game, while the defense is allowing 74.0 points per contest for fourth in the A-R-C.

LAST TIME OUT
Simpson collected a 102-100 double overtime victory over league-favorite Loras on Saturday ... Andrew Curran dropped a career-high 43 points and hit the game-winner with seconds left for the triumph ... Curran played the hero earlier in the contest by scoring the game-tying basket to push the game into overtime ... he had 28 points in the second half alone and poured in eight of the team's 13 points in the second overtime ... Chris Honz tallied his third double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Collin Lister scored 18.
