MBB Preview: Storm look to slow down Dubuque’s offense

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After a break away from action, Simpson College men's basketball will face off with Dubuque this Saturday inside Cowles Fieldhouse. Action will begin at 4 p.m.

The Storm (0-1) hit the hardwood for the second time this season, while the Spartans (3-0) look for their fourth win in a row.

Todd Guessford and Ethan Humble will be on the call as the game will be streamed live through SimpsonAthletics.com. Pregame will begin at 3:45 p.m.

SIMPSON ATTENDANCE POLICY
At this time, the general public, faculty, staff and students will not be allowed to attend home contests inside Cowles Fieldhouse. Student-athletes and coaches from both teams will be permitted two spectators that can attend.

DUBUQUE SERIES NOTES
For the 156th time, the Storm and Spartans square off on the hardwood as Simpson captured the first victory in the series during the 1919-20 season ... the series has been equal as of late as both teams have won five contests over the last 10 meetings, with both squads winning two in a row on two occasions ... Dubuque is currently in the midst of a two-game winning streak over the Storm and won by 9.5 points during that stretch to sweep the series last season.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Dubuque currently paces the American Rivers Conference in victories with three and is still unbeaten ... the Spartans have scored at least 88 points in all three games, while coming close to the 100-point mark with 99 and 98-point performances to begin the season ... Dubuque is winning by at least 25.6 games per outing after being picked to finish fourth in the league standings ... three players are scoring in double figures for the Spartans, Patrick Mayfield (23.0), Peter Ragen (14.3) and Levi Scheuermann (11.0).

LAST TIME OUT
The Storm had their season opener on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Wartburg, but lost, 69-64 ... Simpson went on a 21-9 run in the second half to bring the game to within four points after falling down by 16 ... the Knights closed the door after scoring four points in 20 seconds to widen the gap with only 10 seconds left to even their season record to 1-1 ... senior Kade Tatkenhorst led all scorers with 16 points and junior Chris Honz collected his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.

A-R-C PRESEASON COACHES' POLL
The conference's coaches selected Loras to finish first, while the defending regular season and tournament champions, Nebraska Wesleyan, follows in second ... Wartburg and Dubuque fill the third and fourth-place slots, Buena Vista and Coe tie for fifth, and Central and Luther share seventh ... the Storm are selected ninth.

BEYOND THE ARC
Simpson has drained at least 10 3-pointers in five-straight contests dating back to last season ... the Storm had 11 games with double-digit efforts from beyond the arc, notching a season-high 17 on two occasions.
