Bucklin named First Team Academic All-District

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson track and field athlete Lauren Bucklin earned a spot on the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Women's Track & Field First Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

An eight-time All-American hurdler from Bondurant, Iowa, Bucklin graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.84 GPA in psychology. As a first team selection, Bucklin is eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, which will be announced Thursday, June 24.

Bucklin helped Simpson to a 15th place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, placing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles.

Student-athletes nominated for an ESPN The Magazine All-District Team must own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or better.

Bucklin closed her career as one of the most decorated athletes in program history. She earned All-America honors three times in the 55-meter hurdles indoors, three times in the 100 hurdles outdoors and twice in the 400 hurdles outdoors. Her best finish in the 55 hurdles came as a fourth-place effort in 2010, a third-place finish marked her best performance in the 100 hurdles and she placed eighth twice in the 400 hurdles.

Bucklin owns school records in the 55 hurdles (8.13), 100 hurdles (13.92), 400 hurdles (61.92) and the indoor 4x200-meter relay (1:46.41). Additionally, she owns Iowa Conference Championship records in the 55, 100 and 400 hurdles.

In 2009, Bucklin earned Most Valuable Performer Honors at the Iowa Conference Championships after winning the 100 and 400 hurdles and helping the Storm to third-place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. She is a three-time Iowa Conference All-Academic selection and a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology.

In 2010, Bucklin earned Simpson's Barborka Award, a gift from Dr. Clifford Barborka that is presented to an outstanding Simpson senior who is best in scholarship, character and athletics.
