Women's tennis opens spring slate

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- In its first match of the spring season, Simpson women's tennis lost 9-0 to Concordia University at home on Thursday.

Although the Storm (3-7) didn't get the result they had hoped for, the team did not go down without a fight. Donni Kinghorn was the only Simpson tennis player to win a set against the Bulldogs. Kinghorn prevailed in her first set 7-5, then dropped the final two to lose the match. Emily King came close to forcing her Concordia opponent to a third set, but fell short 6-4, 7-6 (8-0).

In doubles play, the Storm's King and Kennedi Wright duo tallied five games against the Bulldogs. However, Concordia's Claudia M. Viera and Allison Marshall clamimed an 8-5 triumph in the No. 1 slot. The two other Simpson doubles teams both earned two games in their respective matches.
