Storm split doubleheader in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis team took on two American Rivers Conference opponents Saturday, defeating Dubuque 5-4 and losing 8-1 to Loras, both matches were in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Storm move to 1-2 after the first week of competition.

Match One
Simpson 5, Dubuque 4
Simpson tallied two doubles victories and three in singles play to capture its first conference win of the year. The duo of Emily King and Donni Kinghorn moved to 2-0 after claiming an 8-3 win at No. 1 singles. Megan Grubb and Lorin Miller cruised to an 8-1 tally for the Storm.

In singles play, King conceded just two games while winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. Grubb picked up a victory at No. 2 singles with sets of 6-3, 6-2. Kinghorn secured a win in her No. 4 singles match.

Match Two
Loras 8, Simpson 1
The tandem of King and Kinghorn prevailed at No. 1 singles with a narrow win of 8-6. King had a tough match at No. 1 singles and fell 6-3, 6-1.

The Duhawks were nearly perfect through the other five singles matches and only allowed Simpson to win two games.

The Storm travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 14 for another A-R-C battle, this time against Coe.
