King earns bronze in A-R-C Individual Tournament
WATERLOO, Iowa -- Emily King earned third place in her respective bracket to end the American Rivers Conference Individual Tournament on Saturday for the Simpson women's tennis team.
On day one, King defeated Coe's Victoria Montoya 6-1, 6-1 then beat Coe's Isabella Hoppenjans in the quarterfinals 6-2, 7-5.
However, King fell short to Luther's Devon Bourget in the semifinals 6-1, 6-0 but bounced back to earn third place over Wartburg's Madison Overmann 6-2, 7-5. Megan Grubb also competed in the A-singles bracket but lost in her first match.
Allie Smith put up a hard fight against Luther's Natalie Peterson but was two points short in an 8-6 result in the first round. In addition, Kennedi Wright, Kathryn Hays, Samantha Goodger and Lorin Miller lost their opening round matches in individual play.
The doubles team of Megan Grubb and Lorin Miller made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Luther's duo of Megan Grimm and Jalen DenHartog 8-3. Grubb and Miller beat a Loras' doubles team in the second round 8-2.
King and Wright were defeated in the first round of doubles by Wartburg's Rachel Zittergruen and Lauren O'Brian 8-2. Goodger and Smith did not move past round one of doubles either, falling to another Wartburg duo 8-2.
This concludes the fall season for Simpson as the Storm will be back in action in the spring.
