Storm fall twice in A-R-C play

URBANDALE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis team lost both matches against Luther and Wartburg on Saturday at the Life Time Athletic Club in Urbandale, Iowa. The matches were originally scheduled to be played in the Buxton Tennis Complex, but rain moved the matches indoors.

In the first matchup, the Storm fell 9-0 to Luther. Later in the day, Simspon was bested by Wartburg with a 7-2 result. The women's tennis team moved to 2-3 in American Rivers Conference play and 3-4 overall.

Match One
Luther 9, Simpson 0
Emily King was the closest to defeating the Norse in her individual matchup. After losing her first set 6-0, King battled to win four games in the second before coming up short at 6-4. 

In duos, Megan Grubb and Lorin Miller had the best performance by winning three games against a tough duo from Luther, but ultimately fell, 8-3.

Match Two
Wartburg 7, Simpson 2
Grubb was the lone Storm player to steal a win from Wartburg in individual play. Grubb won her three-set match against Hannah Fox 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). In double's play, King and Kennedi Wright defeated a Wartburg duo 8-2.

King also had a hard-fought match in her individual matchup by forcing her Wartburg opponent to three sets, but coming up short in the last one 10-8.

"Luther came out strong in doubles and continued through singles. Emily put up a fight in the second set but came up a few points short. Against Wartburg, we had a dominating doubles team of King and Wright. And then in singles, Megan Grubb and Emily King both took their opponents to tiebreakers. Megan was the victor of her singles and Emily lost a very close match. We were without Donni Kinghorn and had our seven and eight players step up into the varsity lineup."
