Early Saint Mary flurry undoes women’s soccer

OMAHA, Neb. - Saint Mary came out firing on all cylinders and the Simpson women's soccer team couldn't pull itself out of an early hole, losing 3-0 on the road Wednesday.

The Flames (3-3-0) scored all three goals in the first 12 minutes of play. By the time Simpson settled in, the damage was done and the Storm (0-2-2) dropped their second straight after back-to-back ties to start the season.

All three goals came in a 4-minute span. Hanna Staudenmaier scored in the ninth minute to put Saint Mary on the board, Kennedy Cascio scored off a corner in the 11th minute and Elli McMeekin rounded out the scoring at the 11:56 mark.

Simpson managed 13 shots on the day, putting six on goal. Casey Reisen came off the bench to put two shots on goal to lead the Storm.

Up next: Simpson returns home to host Wis.-Platteville on Saturday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. from Buxton Stadium.
