Women's soccer suffers first setback

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Simpson women's soccer team outshot and took more corner kicks than Judson but couldn't take advantage of its opportunities in a 4-1 loss Sunday.

Four different players scored goals for the Eagles (3-0), who took only nine shots but put seven on goal.

Jaqueline Sosa scored less than 90 seconds into the game before Jenna Zelm made it 2-0 in the 34th minute.

Megan Lankford scored her first goal of the season in the 37th minute, finding the back of the net from 25 yards out on an assist from Meredith Harrison to pull the Storm (0-1-2) within one.

Synthia Garcia made it 3-1 at halftime by converting a penalty kick and Simpson couldn't generate a goal the rest of the way.

Up next: Simpson travels to Omaha, Neb. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 to take on St. Mary in a 4 p.m. kickoff.
