Women's soccer drops hard-fought contest to Wartburg

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Wartburg scored two first half goals on corner kicks to beat the Simpson women's soccer team 2-0 in the Iowa Conference opener on Saturday.

Hannah Turner headed in a corner from Brittany Frush in the 17th minute and Kerri Golinghorst gathered a rebound off a corner with 5 seconds left in the first half for the Knights (5-2-2, 1-0 Iowa Conference).

Kristin Riley made four saves for the Storm (2-9, 0-1), who hung around for 90 minutes. Despite the negative result, head Ryan Sander was happy with his team's effort.

"I thought we played the most complete game of the season today," Sander said. "Minus the letup on the corner kicks, I liked our effort."

Heather Adolph and Katie Eichelberger each put two shots on goal for Simpson.

Simpson will try to even their conference mark against Buena Vista on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Storm Lake, Iowa.
