Women's soccer wins second straight

INDIANOLA, Iowa - After losing the first seven games of the season, the Simpson women's soccer team is putting things together.

Katelyn Behounek scored on a header early in the first half, Mackenzie Stump made her second penalty kick in as many games and Simpson held off Waldorf 2-1 on Sunday.

The win is the second in a row for the Storm (2-7), who earned their frist win Friday night against Westminster (Mo.).

"It was the little things that killed us in the previous games," head coach Ryan Sander. "We are cleaning those up and are getting better results for our play."

Behounek put Simpson on the board less than two minutes into the game when she headed in a service from Bailey Sipfle from three yards out. Stump made it 2-0 when she converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

Melanie Chandler brought the Warriors (2-7) within a goal in the 74th minute. She found the back of the net on a on a free kick from the right wing.

Simpson survived a late push by Waldorf to seal the win. Krisin Riley made five saves.
