DECORAH, Iowa – Taylor Johnson scored 30 of her 32 points in the second half and overtime and Luther came back to beat the Simpson women's basketball team 89-86 on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson scored eight points in the final 3:33 as the Norse (11-8, 2-6 Iowa Conference) closed regulation on a 12-2 run, erasing a 10-point deficit to force overtime.
Johnson added 10 points in overtime as Luther built a five point lead with 14 seconds left. Missed free throws allowed Simpson a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but Whitney Van Wyk's desperation 3 went off the mark as time expired.
Brittany Hedrick scored 20 points and Morgan Terpstra had a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Storm (11-8, 6-2), who had a six-game winning streak snapped.
Simpson falls two games behind Loras in the race for its seventh consecutive conference championship, but remains in sole possesion of second place in the league standings by virtue of Coe's loss to Dubuque.
After two games on the road, Simpson returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 5 to host Central at 6 p.m. The Dutch (9-10, 1-7) lost to conference leading Loras 58-42 on Saturday.
