Mauro, Joint named December Student-Athletes of the Month

Women's basketball player Morgan Mauro and wrestler Ryan Joint had breakout performances during the month of December on the way to earning Student-Athlete of the Month honors.

Morgan Mauro, basketball
Mauro, a sophomore shooting guard from Des Moines, Iowa, averaged 8.7 points and 3.5 rebounds iin six games during the month. She made better than 50 percent of her 3-point attempts, going 16-for-29 (55.2 percent). She reached double figures in three straight games and made a career-high six 3s against Mount Mercy. She went 6-for-7 in that game, giving her the top 3-point shooting percentage (85.7) by a Simpson player in a game since 2008.

Ryan Joint, wrestling
Joint, a freshman from Stuart, Iowa, led the Storm with a 5-3 record during the month. He went 2-1 in dual competition and closed the calendar year with a team-best 9-5 record. Three of his five wins came by pinfall. Joint went 3-2 in a stacked 149-pound division at Simpson's Luther L. Hill Invitational early in the month.
