Shooting sports takes third in home event

WAUKEE, Iowa - The Simpson College shooting sports team claimed third place in its home event, the Simpson Open.

The Storm won the bronze medal out of nine total teams, defeating fellow American Rivers Conference foes Coe and Buena Vista. William Penn won the event, while Wartburg took the silver.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Senior Breydon Paxson led the way for the Storm by claiming the gold medal in High Athlete Overall with a score of 333 across four different disciplines.
  • Paxson also tied for first with teammate Wyatt Shoaf in the Super Sporting discipline, with both athletes shooting a score of 49.
  • In the normal Sporting discipline, Paxson shot a 90 to tie for first with William Penn's Russell Malterud.
  • Carson Cummings and Cannon Roberson each recorded near-perfect scores of 99 in trap to lead the Storm.
  • Gracie Schneider was the top woman for the Storm, taking fourth overall in the female High Athlete Overall category with a score of 301.
  • Schneider also claimed the silver medal in the female trap competition by shooting a 98.
