Simpson wins international skeet title, Sheehan earns gold

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College shooting sports club capped off a stellar spring slate with a title in international skeet at the SCTP National Championships, hosted at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Magengo, Ohio.

"I couldn't be prouder of this team and the accomplishments they achieved in light of all the challenges they faced this year," said head coach Dan Martin. "This team maintained a positive attitude and focused on the journey. They put in the work during practice that allowed them to execute in competitions and as a result, we achieved the success everyone was hoping for."

Along with the first-place finish in international skeet, the Storm ended second in bunker/international trap, third in American trap and fourth in American skeet and sporting clays.

Molly Sheehan showcased her skills by capturing first in international skeet to become a national champion. Sheehan just missed two additional golds with a second-place finish in bunker/international trap and third in sporting clays.

Matt Wilkinson (second), Kyle Myers (fourth) and Wyatt Heisterkamp (fifth) all earned top-five results in international skeet to help Simpson finish atop the leaderboard in the event.

Kylie Tierney collected third and Victoria Barksdale was fifth in American trap to round out the Storm's top-five placings.

Simpson recorded a fourth-place result in American Skeet and tallied ninth in sporting clays at the SCTP State Skeet and Sporting Clays Championships. Sheehan padded her stats once again with a gold in American skeet.

Anna Lopez followed Sheehan with a runner-up performance in skeet, while Mackenzie Magnan, Tierney and Barksdale finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the discipline.

At the SCTP ICSSC Shoot in Waukee, the Storm ended second out of 12 teams. The Storm tallied a score of 1,357 to finish behind Iowa Western Community College (1,458).

Sheehan tallied second in the female high overall score and Tierney finished sixth. Myers led the men with an 11th-place nod in the high overall score.

Myers was second in sporting clays with 66 targets and eighth in super sporting clays, and Sheehan was ninth in skeet.
