Storm shooting sports tally second at Iowa Invitational

WAUKEE, Iowa -- The Simpson shooting sports club took second place on Saturday at the Iowa Invitational with a team score of 655, to finish one point behind Grand View, with Coe and Wartburg also competing. Zach Hanson and Matt Wilkinson tied for third overall with each scoring a 133.

In addition to Hanson's and Wilkinson's scores, Kyle Myers and Robert Rauhut both totaled 132 points, and Wyatt Heisterkamp added a 125 to make up the top-five shooters for Simpson.

Molly Sheehan won the skeet discipline for the team's only first-place mark as she was nearly perfect with a score of 49 out of 50 targets. Meyers received second-place honors in trap with a 49-for-50 showing, while Grand View's Sarah Jordan finished ahead of Meyers with a perfect score.

Rauhut shot down 48 targets during the skeet competition to end third to help his overall score. After a four-way tie in sporting clays, Wilkinson finished with a tally of 39 targets to grab bronze for the Storm. Hanson and Rauhut both tied for fourth right behind Wilkinson.

The Simpson shooting sports club will compete in the Grand View Invitational this Saturday at the Indianola Ikes, located right next to the main entrance into Lake Ahquabi State Park.
