Storm fall in four sets at William Penn, multiple players stand out

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Storm traveled to William Penn to face off against the Statesmen in Wednesday night's matchup. Simpson fell to William Penn in three sets after putting up a strong fight. Despite the loss, there were many standout players for the Storm that brought the team another step closer to a victory in the future.

The team was led by Adriano Roma's 17 kills on Wednesday night, followed closely by Ignacio Aguado Herranz's 14 kills. Roma also led the dig category with 18, putting up a double-double. Libero Sebastian Rivera contributed 15 digs for the Storm as well. Max Robinson led the team with 37 assists, earning a double-double with his 12 digs. Cody Durbin led the team in blocks with four, and Adriano Roma contributed two aces.

Roma's 17 kills is a new season-high for the freshman, beating his old record of 15 kills. Ignacio Aguado Herranz put up a new career-high kills with 14, and Max Robinson demolished his career-high assists with his 37 tonight.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Storm opened the first point of the match on a kill by Adriano Roma, keeping the score close for most of the opening first set. In the mid-set, William Penn went on a 4-0 run to put the Storm down 14-9. Simpson fought back late in the set with a 3-0 run, but eventually lost the set 25-17.
  • In set two, William Penn scored the first two points before Ignacio Aguado Herranz got a kill to shut down their momentum. The Storm brought the score to a tie early in the second set at 11-11. Five straight points for William Penn forced the Storm to take a timeout. Fresh out of the timeout, Max Robinson got a kill followed by an ace from Aguado Herranz. A couple of late runs by the Statesmen finished the set with William Penn on top 25-17.
  • The Storm went down 4-0 early in the third set before a kill by Adriano Roma set things in motion for the Storm. The Storm went down by as many as five points in the third set before fighting to get back into the game. A kill by Daniel Garcia Contreras brought Simpson to a tie at 13-13. Another kill and ace by Garcia Contreras brought the Storm their first lead of the set at 19-18. Simpson won set three 25-22
  • Ignacio Aguado Herranz scored the opening point of set four on a kill from Max Robinson's assist. They took the early lead at 9-8, then went into a series of ties for most of the match. A late 3-0 run by William Penn put the Storm down 21-18. A pair of kill by Roma brought the score back to a tie at 23-23, but the Storm eventually fell in the fourth set 25-23.
