Storm drop straight sets against Ottawa

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Simpson College men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Ottawa University, pushing towards closer matches in sets two and three.

Adriano Roma led the team in kills with 13, the most by any player this season. Max Robinson led the team in assists with 20, and Sebastian Rivera brought the digs with eight for the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Storm fell behind in the first set to Ottawa's 5-0 opening run. Near the beginning of the set, Ignacio Herranz collected a kill for the Storm to close the gap. A series of runs by Ottawa brought the score to 19-6 in favor of Ottawa, and the Storm couldn't catch up towards the end of the set, falling 25-8.
  • The Storm scored the opening point of the second set, going back and forth with Ottawa for the first points of the set. Simpson fell to being down by three, but a kill by Anthony Potratz brought the score back within two. Ottawa went on multiple small runs throughout the remainder of the set to close out the set 25-15.
  • Ottawa scored the first three points of the third set before Ignacio Herranz cut off the run. Adriano Roma scored another point for the Storm off a kill, but Ottawa went on another run. Another kill by Roma and a kill from Joseph Wollum brought the Storm back within four before Ottawa scored four straight points. The Storm rattled off a couple of late kills by Cody Durbin and Ignacio Herranz to pull the score up to 20-12 in favor of Ottawa. The Storm ultimately fell in set three 25-14.
