Simpson picks up first set victory of season

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Storm fell in four sets tonight against Rockford in their first home match of the year as well as their first match under new head coach Ike Papes. Despite the loss, Simpson picked up their first set victory of the season in tonight's game. The Storm also had a few standout players that reached double-doubles in tonight's defeat.

Max Robinson put up a double-double tonight with his 12 digs and 27 assists. With 27 assists, Robinson crushed his career-high, which was formerly 20 assists. Adriano Roma also scored a double-double tonight with his 15 kills and 20 digs, both of which are season-highs for the freshman.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Storm opened set one with the first point of the game on a kill by Adriano Roma. Later in the set, the Storm went down 11-8 before rallying off six straight points, and an ace from Max Robinson to bring the Storm to 14-11. Some back and forth from both teams led to extra points at the end of the set with the score being tied 25-25. Rockford won the first set 28-26.
  • The Storm began set two with four straight points, coming off kills from Anthony Potratz and Ignacio Aguado Herranz. Rockford responded quickly with four straight points of its own. By mid-set, the Storm were down 15-11. Another late push by Rockford closed the set with the Storm falling 25-17
  • The Storm got the first two points of set three followed by a run of points with another ace from Max Robinson. At mid-set, the Storm were leading Rockford 16-10. An ace by Anthony Portraz put the Storm over 20 points and an ace by Adriano Roma closed the set 25-20 for the Storm.
  • In set four, the Storm went down 6-1 to open the set. A kill by Adriano Roma cut the run short, but Rockford responded with a series of multiple short runs. A mid-set ace by Cody Durbin kept the Storm in the game, but the team found themselves down 20-8 near the end of the set. The Storm fell in set four 25-12

The Storm return to play tomorrow in an exhibition match against the Luther College Club. The game is at home and will be played at 7:30 p.m.
