Cord's toss highlights day one at Jim Duncan Invitational
DES MOINES, Iowa – John Cord captured a third-place finish in the javelin throw to highlight the Simpson track and field team's first day at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The reigning Iowa Conference Champion in the javelin throw, Cord registered a heave of 163-feet, 10 inches in his third attempt on Friday. He finished behind two throwers from NCAA Division I Drake.
Taking part in his first competition since joining the team, newcomer Jean-Baptiste Bouyer finished right behind Cord in the javelin throw, taking fourth (157-2).
Despite less than ideal running conditions, Ryan Edwardson managed to take seventh place in the 5,000 meters, breaking the tape in 15:05.00 to edge Central's Drew Jackson at the line. Edwardson set the meet record in the 10,000 meters in 2011.
On the women's side Kinsey Bak and Jordan Maher took home sixth-place finishes in field events.
Bak hit the sand in 16-7 in the long jump and Maher heaved the discuss 128-5.
The Jim Duncan Invitational concludes Saturday.
