Men's track and field takes sixth at conference

MT. VERNON, Iowa – Brad Vogel placed second in the 60-meter dash and Matt Stone took second in the 800-meter run, leading the Simpson men's track and field team to a sixth-place finish at the Iowa Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday.

The Storm scored 52 points, 12 back of Luther's 64. Wartburg won the title with 210.5 points, followed by Central (182).

Vogel improved one spot from his third-place run in the preliminaries on Friday, crossing the finish line in 7.07. Stone completed his half-mile in 1:56.57, just behind Central's L.J. Lipscomb (1:56.02).

Returning to the track for the first time since his freshman year, senior Ben Coy ran to a fourth-place finish in the open 400 meters (50.48) and led off Simpson's fourth-place 4x400-meter relay team along with Brandon Christensen, Brice Sheeder and Vogel (3:27.41).

Josh Diehm added a fifth-place effort in the high jump, clearing 6-4 ¾ on his first attempt. Ryan Edwardson came in sixth in the 3,000 meters (8:49.91).

The Storm's best relay came in the 4x800 meters, where Stone, Garrett Woodson, Joe Farrand and Leif Jeppson took third (8:06.40).
