Track teams take fourth at Spartan Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson men's and women's track and field teams each placed fourth at the Spartan Open on Saturday.

Kinsey Bak and Jade Osborne combined to win three events for the women's team, which finished with 71 points. UW-Platteville won the meet with 153 points, followed by Clark (109), Dubuque (75) and Simpson.

Bak won the high jump and long jump, clearing 5-foot-3 in the high jump and reaching 17-1/2 in the long jump. Osborne won the 3,000 meters (11:23.83).

Freshman Bayley Fleshner took second in the 55-meter hurdles (8.89), followed closely by Bak in third (9.08).

Ryan Edwardson and Josh Diem turned in second-place finishes to lead the men's team, which finished with 57 points. UW-La Crosse won the meet with 198 points, UW-Platteville came in second (188) and Dubuque finished third (60).

Edwardson took second in the 3,000 meters (8:57.58) while Diem cleared 6-2 3/4 on the high jump.

Mitchell Davis followed Edwardson in the 3,000, taking third (9:04.34) while Matt Stone placed fourth (9:09.79).

Simpson will take part in the Cornell Hilltop Invitational next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4.
