Storm secure fourth at Pioneer Classic

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Simpson men's team took to the lanes to compete in the Pioneer Classic this weekend, facing off against five different schools. Simpson took home fourth place at the end of the meet, scoring higher than Soka University and Washington University of St. Louis.

Throughout the weekend competition, multiple swimmers set new records for the program in their respective races. In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the team consisting of Tristan Blair, Parker Ehrreich, Carter Pichler, and Jay Ceperley came in with a time of 7:33.49, smashing the previous school record by over 11 seconds. The strong performance in the 800 yard freestyle relay placed the Storm at fourth in that event.

The previous 800 yard freestyle relay was set just over a month ago on October 19th by the same four men when they raced a 7:44.70 at the Simpson Relay Meet.

Jay Ceperley tied a school record in the 100 yard butterfly, marking the first individual men's school record under coach Adam Cvetich. Ceperley's time of a 54.38 in the finals of the 100 yard butterfly is an exact match to the school record that was set by Ryan Gaumer on February 15, 2019. Jay Ceperley's time of 54.38 put him in eighth place in the race.

The men's swim team will return for their next meet in 2025. They will head back to Grinnell for the Grinnell Invite on January 17-18, 2025.
