Simpson's undefeated run comes to a close

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson men's soccer team's undefeated run came to an end Tuesday night.

JoJo Schmidt scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 45th minute and No. 4 Loras beat Simpson 3-1 at the Rock Bowl.

Schmidt's goal gave Loras a 2-0 lead at halftime as the Duhawks (9-0-2, 2-0 Iowa Conference) remained the only unbeaten team in the league with the win.

Mitchell White continued his recent tear, connecting on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute to pull the Storm (7-1-2, 1-1) within a goal at 2-1. The goal was White's ninth of the season and sixth in the last four games. He has at least one goal in five of the last six outings.

Simpson's nine-game undefeated streak to start the season was the longest in school history.

The Storm managed two shots after White's penalty kick and Johnny Rummelhart made it a 3-1 affair with his header in the 85th minute.

Zach McEntee made eight saves in his first start of the season for Simpson. Dylan Milkent went without a save for Loras.

Simpson is off until Saturday, Oct. 5 when it looks to get back on the winning track with a conference contest against Buena Vista. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
