50 named to fall All-Academic team
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Simpson placed 50 student-athletes on the 2013 Iowa Conference Fall All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
The football led the way with 11 honorees, followed closely by women's soccer (10), volleyball (9) and men's soccer (8). Men's cross country saw five individuals meet the criteria, followed by three each from women's tennis and women's cross country, and one from the women's golf team.
Of those players recognized for their academics, five also found themselves on all-conference teams in 2013. On the football field, Clay Finley earned second team honors as a defensive lineman and Nate Connealy was an honorable mention pick as a wide receiver. Volleyball's Tabitha Blaser and women's soccer's Stephanie Cox were both honorable mention selections and women's golfer Jennifer Gaffney finished sixth place at the IIAC Tournament.
The conference recognized 349 athletes in all.
