Simpson trio honored on all-conference team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Sophomore CJ Hangartner and seniors Reed Worth and Wyatt Schaben have been selected to the All-American Rivers Conference Football Team.

Hangartner and Worth both landed on the first team, while Schaben garnered honorable mention recognition for the third straight year. This is Hangarter's first time earning all-conference honors and Worth's second.

The Storm completed the season with a 3-7 record under first-year head coach Reed Hoskins. Simpson recorded wins over Crown, Buena Vista and Luther, putting up at least 48 points in each victory.

CJ Hangartner, First Team

  • Sophomore linebacker from Tucson, Ariz.
  • Led the conference with 16.0 tackles for loss
  • Ranked third with seven total sacks, all coming in league play, for a loss of 44 yards
  • Finished the year with 60 tackles overall (11th A-R-C), including 40 solo stops (t-6th A-R-C)
  • Earned A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 2 after recording 10 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry against Buena Vista

Reed Worth, First Team

  • Senior wide receiver from Monroe, Iowa
  • Lands on the All-A-R-C team for the second year in a row after earning second team recognition in 2022
  • Led the conference with 1,160 total receiving yards and 909 receiving yards in A-R-C play
  • Tallied a career-high 15 touchdowns, recording multiple scores in six contests
  • Registered triple-digit receiving yards in all but two games
  • Had a season-high three touchdowns and 209 yards at Buena Vista, including a 94-yard touchdown catch that tied for the longest play in team history
  • Became the program's all-time leader in receiving touchdowns (35) and yards (3,265)
  • Finished the year ranked top 8 in the country in receiving touchdowns, yards and yards per game

Wyatt Schaben, Honorable Mention

  • Senior linebacker from Harlan, Iowa
  • Earns his third consecutive honorable mention nod
  • Ranked sixth in the league with 73 total tackles in eight games, averaging 9.1 per contest (t-2nd A-R-C)
  • Recorded six or more tackles in all but one game, including three double-digit efforts
  • Had a season-high 17 tackles against Coe with four going for a loss of four yards
