Hangartner earns defensive player of the week recognition
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Following a dominating performance in Simpson's 55-28 win at Buena Vista, CJ Hangartner has been named American Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Hangartner recorded a season-high 10 tackles (all solo) including seven for a loss of 31 yards. He had three sacks, one of which resulted in a fumble that was returned for a touchdown late in the second quarter, and a quarterback hurry that led to the Storm's second interception of the day.
Simpson's defense forced a season-high four turnovers en route to the road win. Along with Hangarter's forced fumble that was recovered by Joey Goins for six points, Jeremyah Garland knocked a ball loose that Wyatt Schaben jumped on. Zach Truitt and Mason Little snagged the Storm's two interceptions.
The Storm enter their bye week with an overall record of 2-3. Simpson will next be in action on Oct. 14 when Coe (4-1, 2-1 A-R-C) comes to town for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
