Simpson finishes in top five at Wartburg
WAVERLY, Iowa - The Simpson College men and women's cross country teams both put together top five finishes in a field full of regionally ranked and conference opponents.
WOMEN'S RECAP
- Lara Kallem took fourth place overall with a career-best time of 22:46.40, leading the Storm to a third place finish.
- Emily Erhardt was the second Storm runner to cross the finish line, breaking the 24-minute barrier for the second time in her career.
- Simpson defeated five other American Rivers Conference teams, taking down regionally ranked Loras and Illinois Wesleyan in the process.
- Teghan Booth joined Kallem and Erhardt in finishing in the top 25 individually.
"Our women ran really well today," said director of track and field and cross country Heath Moenck. "We have high expectations for the group and they performed well, with Lara placing fourth as an added highlight."
MEN'S RECAP
- Spencer Moon took second place overall, leading the Storm men to a fourth-place finish.
- Ean Warrick finished just inside the top 20 as the second Storm runner to finish.
- The Storm men finished ahead of three regional opponents, Luther from the A-R-C and non-conference foes Grinnell and Cornell College.
"Our men took a step in the right direction today," continued Moenck. "They really competed hard and ran well in a very tough field."
UP NEXT
Both teams have next weekend off before heading to compete in the Augustana Interregional Invite in Illinois, the final meet before the A-R-C Championship.
