Smith earns milestone victory

Simpson head volleyball coach Lana Smith earned career win No. 300 at the IIAC-NACC Crossover Challenge in Dubuque on Friday, Sept. 25.

The milestone win came in Simpson's first match of the weekend. The Storm beat Marian (Wis.) in four sets en-route to a perfect 4-0 mark for the tournament. 

Now in her 17th season, Smith is 303-261 since taking over the program in 1999. She has led the Storm to two Iowa Conference Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, winning Iowa Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2001. She came to Simpson from Indianola High School, where she went 243-89 in nine seasons while making four trips to the state tournament.

Smith is second on Simpson's all-time wins list. Her predecessor, the late Shelley O'Meara, is No. 1 with 332 career wins.
