Simpson closes play at Minnesota-Morris Invite

MORRIS, Minn. – The Simpson volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Minnesota-Morris Invitational on Saturday, losing to Hamline 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 29-27) and St. Catherine 3-2 (25-15, 25-27, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13).

The Storm (2-4) closed the weekend 1-3. Jacqueline Luth earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

HAMLINE
Tabitha Blaser carried the load against Hamline, finishing with 10 kills and hitting .304. No other player managed more than four kills, though, as Simpson lost in three. Sara Hoppenworth had 14 assists, Maura Chadwick had 11 and Olivia Sulentic came away with 13 digs.

ST. CATHERINE
Simpson came within a set of toppling the Wildcats before dropping the fourth and fifth sets. Luth had a monster performance in the losing effort, burying 21 kills and hitting .321 with 12 digs and five block assists. MacKenzie McGraw finished with 12 kills, Hoppenworth (26) and Chadwick (23) handled the distribution and Sulentic made 30 digs.

UP NEXT
Simpson goes to Grinnell for a non-conference clash on Wednesday. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
