Sheffer takes over women's golf program

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson interim athletics director Brian Niemuth announced Monday that Heather Sheffer will become the school's new head women's golf coach.

Sheffer takes over for Noel Knock, who resigned following the fall season. Knock served as co-head coach in 2011 and was in her first year as head coach in 2012.

"We are excited to announce Heather as our new women's golf coach," Niemuth said. "She has great knowledge of the game and, because of her previous experience at Simpson, knows what we stand for and what we are trying to accomplish as a program."

Sheffer served as an assistant under long-time head coach Bob Darrah in 2010 and was an all-conference golfer as a prep in Rosemount, Minn.

"I'm very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to the spring season," Sheffer said. "I feel very fortunate to inherit a quality team and am excited about our potential for the future."

The Storm placed third at the Iowa Conference Championships in 2012 and return medalist and conference golfer of the year, Jennifer Gaffney.

Sheffer graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies in 1996. She and her husband, J.R., reside in Indianola with their two children, David (14) and Abby (12).
