Gaffney 3rd as Storm take 2nd at final tourney
PELLA, Iowa – Jennifer Gaffney won the tiebreaker to place third and the Simpson women's golf team closed the spring season with a second place finish at the Central Spring Invitational at Bos Landen Golf Course on Saturday.
Originally scheduled to be a two-round tournament, the format switched to one round due to the threat cold, wet conditions on Friday.
Simpson shot 359 as a team, behind tournament champion Central (347). Northwestern (Iowa) shot 363 to take third in the three-team field.
Gaffney and Emma Wynja each carded an 84, but Gaffney won the tiebreaker for sole possession of third place. Central's Kelsey Van Tasell won the individual race by three strokes with a 79.
Stacy Bergeson shot an 88 to tie for sixth and Jessica Lerdal took eighth with an 89, rounding out the Storm's top-10 performers.
Molly Hill (t-13th, 95), Jamie Knock (t-15th, 98), Lesley Pearey (19th, 104), Kiley Wermersen (t-20th, 105) and Holly Baiotto (23rd, 111) rounded out the Simpson performers.
