Gaffney named IIAC Golfer, Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – On the strength of her medalist performance at the conference championship and Golfer of the Year accolades, Simpson's Jennifer Gaffney earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference  (IIAC) Golfer of the Week and Female Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 7, the league office announced Monday.

A senior from Waukee, Iowa, Gaffney fired a final-round 86 at Pella's Bos Landen Golf Course on Saturday to finish at 324 overall and win by two strokes over Loras' Abby Potts.

Gaffney is the fourth individual from Simpson to be named Iowa Conference Women's Golfer of the Year, totaling a league-high nine honors. She is also the seventh Simpson golfer to earn medalist honors and the first since Janelle Claiborne in 2004. It is the 10th time a Simpson golfer has earned medalist honors since the tournament began in 1982.

The golfer of the week award is Gaffney's second of the season. She also took home the honor Sept. 2 after winning the Buena Vista Fall Invitational.
