Morrow, Simpson come up big in win over Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Noreen Morrow scored a game-high 19 points, Allyson Simpson made the go-ahead shot early in the third quarter and the Simpson women's basketball team never looked back, beating Dubuque 58-48 on Wednesday.

Simpson broke a 26-all tie with her layup at the 8:54 mark in the third quarter and later hit a 3 from the left wing for a seven-point lead as Simpson won for the second time in three games.

Simpson scored seven of her eight points in the second half, Megan Lankford added eight points and four steals and Morrow pulled down nine rebounds for the Storm (5-9, 2-3 Iowa Conference).

Emily Brinker had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double and Morgan Boer added 10 points for the Spartans (6-9, 2-4), who lost their second game in a row.

Simpson threatened to break the game open in the second quarter when a 3 by Britney Boland made it 18-11. Dubuque responded with a 6-0 run and the game remained tight until the final quarter. A 3 by Brinker pulled Dubuque within 44-40, but Simpson responded with a 3 of her own on the next possession. 

Simpson went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe in the final 5 minutes, going 19-for-23 on the game.
