EAU CLAIRE, Wis — Noreen Morrow posted an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double but a slow second quarter hurt the Simpson women's basketball team in a 71-55 loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, the final day of the Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic.
Megan Lankford had seven points and six assists and Ellen Gallagher chipped in with six points off the bench for the Storm (1-1), who were outscored 34-16 in the second and third quarters. Simpson managed just five points in the second quarter as Whitewater opened up a seven-point lead at halftime.
Brooke Trewn had 24 points and nine rebounds and Andrea Meinert finished with 11 points and five assists for the Warhawks (2-0), who pulled away with a 7-0 run in the third quarter.
Morrow shot 8-for-12 from the field and pulled down five offensive rebounds. Her 13 boards are a career-high.
Simpson built a 16-9 lead on a Lankford 3 in the first quarter, but Whitewater battled back to tie the game at 21 after the first. The Warhawks took the lead for good on a Becky Raeder layup with 8:52 to play before half.
Simpson doesn't have to wait long to get another shot at Whitewater. The two teams will play again in eight days at the Wis.-La Crosse Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday, Nov. 27.
