Loras comes back to beat Storm despite 23 from Morrow

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Noreen Morrow scored a game-high 23 points but Loras used an 11-4 run down the stretch to beat the Simpson women's basketball team 71-66 on Saturday.

Allyson Simpson misfired on a potential game-tying 3-pointer with 15 seconds left and the Storm (4-9, 1-3 Iowa Conference) turned it over after an offensive rebound, allowing Loras to seal the win with a pair of free throws.

After managing just five points in the previous two games combined, Morrow came back in a big way, going 10-for-14 from the field and grabbing nine rebounds. She scored 17 points in the second half -- 11 in the fourth quarter -- and her layup at the 6:36 mark in the fourth gave Simpson a 60-55 lead.

The Duhawks (7-7, 1-4) outscored Simpson 16-6 the rest of the way for their first Iowa Conference win. Lauren Stanich hit the go-ahead 3 with 3:26 left, giving Loras a 65-62 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Lori Obendorf led Loras with 20 points and seven rebounds and Cyerra Hutchins added 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Simpson jumped out to an early 18-9 lead on 3 by Ellen Gallagher, but Loras came all the way back to take a 36-33 lead at halftime. The Storm built a six-point lead in the third and led by as many as five in the fourth.

Gallagher scored 11 points off the bench, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
