Roshek named 2nd Team All-Conference

CEDAR RAPIDS - Simpson's leading hitter in 2011, outfielder Veronica Roshek earned Second Team All-Iowa Conference honors, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Roshek, a junior slap-hitter from Urbandale, Iowa, led the team with a .421 batting average throughout the season. Her average is the highest by a Simpson player since 2008 and her 56 hits are tied for fourth in program history. She hit .400 against Iowa Conference foes.

She started in all 42 games for the Storm, helping the team to a 24-18 record and a third-place finish at the Iowa Conference Softball Tournament. She slugged .534 and owned a team-high .480 on-base percentage with one home run and 14 RBIs. Her 12 doubles tied the team lead with Keri Sorensen and are the fourth-most by a Simpson player in a single-season. As a baserunner, she was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.

Joining Roshek with all-conference honors, third-baseman Hillary Harmon earned a nod to the honorable mention all-conference team.

Harmon, a freshman from Liberty, Mo., hit .254 on the year and .256 against conference opponents. She finshed second on the team with six home runs to go along with five doubles, a triple and a slugging percentage of .474. Defensively, she led the team with 105 assists at the hot corner.
