Simpson softball beats Kean, falls to Muskingum

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Simpson softball team beat Kean 7-5 and fell to Muskingum 4-3 on the second day of the 2011 Rebel Spring Games on Saturday.

Kiersten Ruff and Hillary Harmon each drove in a run with two outs in the seventh inning as Simpson rallied for a 7-5 win over Kean.

Tied 4-4 going into the seventh, Allie Hock got things started with a two-out double. Ruff singled to score pinch-runner Leslie Downing and scored on a double by Harmon. An error allowed Harmon to score on the play, giving the Storm (6-4) a three-run cushion.

Bryn Johnson picked up the win in relief of Kacee Arey, tossing three innings and allowing one run.

Amanda Enochs went 2-for-3 and Keri Sorensen had two RBIs.

Simpson trailed 4-1 before tying the game with three runs in the fifth. Sorensen sparked the rally with a two-RBI double.

Muskingum 4, Simpson 3
Trailing 4-2 going in the seventh, Simpson scored one run before the rally fell short with the bases loaded. Tieryn Potratz hit a deep fly ball, but the Muskingum centerfielder tracked it down at the warning track.

Carissa Coopman had two hits and Allison Barloon suffered the loss.

Simpson will face Carthage and Endicott on Sunday.
